Harsh conditions couldn’t stop Kintbury from getting it over the line against Totton & Eling
Kintbury Rangers had to fight hard to take all three points from Totton & Eling.
Rangers hosted Totton & Eling on the weekend, with all three points going the home sides way as they defeat the visitors 3-0 in the Wessex League Division One.
Manager Chris Collin said, “We deserved to win the game, first half was tricky conditions because we went against the wind first and sort of ‘ride the storm out’ as they say.
They didn’t really trouble us that much but we needed to get them in at halftime, change of shape, change of formation slightly, we came out second half and they reacted to how we thought the game would go with going against the wind and it being a pain.
So we thought we’d ride that out, and the gameplan worked.”
“The focus is to be competitive because the next three games are tricky again, if we can get some points then brilliant.”
The first half kicked off as mid-table Rangers aim to take down bottom of the league Totton & Eling.
As the early minutes ran on, the weather conditions made it very evident that the game was going to be tough for either side.
Kintbury Rangers faced the wind, which was proving to be slightly difficulty.
Both teams seemed rather apprehensive, with neither attack providing enough sting to shift the deadlock.
Eling looked the stronger team in many moments of the first half, hoping to close the gap between the home side in the table.
Rangers aimed to ride the storm out as the interval approached quickly.
The score line soon changed quickly as the second half began, with Wallins hitting home just four minutes after the wind was at their backs.
After the tactical change of formation during half time, Kintbury looked to put the game to bed as soon as possible.
In the 61 minute the home team did just that, as Sam Walsh doubles the tally for the day.
Totton & Eling struggled against both the strong winds and strong attacks from Rangers.
The game was truly put to bed in the 77 minute, as Elliot Weaving made an amazing run from the halfway line, cut inside off his left foot, and curled a 25 yard shot into the bottom corner.
That ‘goal scoring feeling’ was shortly lived however, as Weaving came off injured soon after.
As the final whistle blows, the players head off the windy pitch with the score line at 3-0 to the home side.
