West Berkshire senior champion Renee Wheele wins two more competitions at golf club

Renee Wheeler, the 2021 senior champion at West Berkshire Golf Club, ended the competitive season in fine form by winning two competitions in just three days.

She won Round 6 of the ladies’ Winter Series with 37 points, while Gale McAuley was second with 31 and Carol Sparvell third with 24.

Wheeler won the ladies’ midweek singles Turkey Trot competition in which she scored 35 points, being followed home by Jane Brackenbury on 31, while Chloe Somerville with 30 points beat Gale McAuley on countback to take third spot.

Meanwhile, Nick Jones won the men’s midweek Turkey Trot singles with 43 points beating Kieran Watson on countback.

Third place was also decided on countback with John Harris on 42 points beating Barrie Green to take the third prize.

The mixed Saturday Turkey Trot singles competition ended in a three-way tie on 41 points with the placing of Samuel Jubb, Tina Mulford and Nick Jones resolved in that order on countback.

It was a cold winter’s day, when Theale Golf Club ladies set out to challenge for 2021 Club Ladies Championship.

Mary Pett turned out a clear winner of the Stableford contest with 35 points.

Liz Royston-Smith and Wendy Davis were level at the end of their 18 holes both with 31 points, so it required a countback to decide who was runner-up.

That honour went to Royston-Smith with Davis taking third place.
