Danny Robinson has 'something else to work towards' as Hungerford Town get National League South fixtures
Hungerford Town manager Danny Robinson is pleased to have a date to work towards as the National League South fixtures were announced.
As a result of their being an odd number of teams (21) in the division, every team will have a week off and it’s Hungerford’s turn on the opening day of the season on August 14.
Therefore, they will have to wait another week before their campaign begins and that comes in the form of Welling United away from home on August 21.
“No matter who you get it will always be a tough one in this league,” said Robinson. “It’s away from home and it will be difficult, but it gives us something else to work towards.
Tonbridge Angels will be the first visitors to Bulpit Lane for the new season on Saturday, August 28, and Robinson is excited for the fans back at a competitive fixture.
“I can’t wait because nothing beats competitive football when you’re playing on a Saturday afternoon for three points and it’s why we play football.
“We want to win as many games as we can and to have the fans back will be great because it’s been a very long time.”
Hungerford kicked-off their pre-season with a 5-0 friendly win over Brimscombe & Thrupp with Warren Bentley scoring a hat-trick and last season’s top scorer Ryan Seager scoring twice.
“We have been working really hard over the past month and the most important thing is getting minutes in the bank.
“It was a convincing win, it could have been more, but we got a clean sheet and it’s always nice when one of your striker gets a hat-trick and the other scores two.”
