Robinson anticipates tough Havant test

Hungerford Town manager Danny Robinson is happy to have got a first win of the new season.

The Crusaders beat Tiverton Town 2-1 at Bulpit Lane on Saturday, getting them up and running in the Southern League Premier Division South.

“It was probably the worst we’ve played in our three games,” he reflected.

“But we managed to win.

“It was scrappy, but all that matters is getting up and running and getting three points on the board.

“That was one of the best Tiverton sides I’ve seen in a long time.”

Hungerford have an incredibly strong cohort of strikers this season.

Harry Williams and James Ollis arrived over the summer, joining Conor McDonagh, Kyle Tooze, Jacob Bancroft and young James Tomlinson.

Hungerford play with two up top, with Williams scoring against Tiverton, Ollis providing the assist and McDonagh coming close only to be denied by an offside flag.

“It is healthy competition,” Robinson admitted.

“We’re blessed in that department.

“Now Kyle Tooze has finished his suspension now too.

“At the moment Harry and James are playing really well.

“They’re all enjoying it.

“It doesn’t matter what pairing we pick, we’ll always have two very good centre-forwards on the pitch.”

Hungerford travel to face Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday, a place where they’ve had little to no joy in recent years.

Robinson knows this all too well and will tailor his selection accordingly.

“It’s notorious for us,” he said.

“It’s a ground I don’t think we’ve ever won at.

“Our most positive result was a 0-0 last year.

“They’re a full-time outfit and a good side.

“The main man is Ryan Seager, so we’re expecting a very good side.

“We will have to be at our best to get something from the game.”
