Robinson hails 'massive' win as Crusaders beat Braintree

Hungerford Town boss Danny Robinson hailed an “absolutely massive” three points after his side beat Braintree 2-1 at the weekend.

Ryan Jones and Joe Boachie scored as the Crusaders came from behind to end Braintree’s 13 match unbeaten run and move to within two points of National League South safety.

"It's a huge win for us," Robinson said.

"I thought on the balance of play we deserved it, it's just an absolutely massive three points for us."

Robinson's side were humbled 4-0 at Berkshire rivals Slough last weekend but responded with a thumping 5-2 win over relegation rivals Weymouth and made it back to back wins with victory over the Iron on Saturday.

He said: "It was really important that we backed up what we did in the week.

"There were still a few nerves after the 20 minutes we had at Slough, but we were controlled and measured and did what we needed to do."

The Crusaders looked to get the ball from back to front quickly and did well to contain Braintree, who were visibly and audibly frustrated at being unable to break down a resilient and organised home side despite having the advantage of the Bulpit Lane slope after the break.

"The first half was not one for the spectators, from that point of view it was awful," Robinson said.

"We had to keep on fighting and show great character, especially after going 1-0 down.

"Teams come here and turn us round and always want to kick downhill second half, I don't know why because we score more goals going uphill."

Hungerford travel to eighth placed Tonbridge Angels on Saturday, looking to maintain their momentum in the battle for survival.
