Robinson pleased with a point
Hungerford Town boss Danny Robinson admitted he was satisfied with a point after his side drew 1-1 with Farnborough on Boxing Day.
“It was a good point, Farnborough absolutely battered us to be fair,” Robinson said.
“Bar one set piece, I thought we defended absolutely brilliantly, we put our bodies on the line, won headers and made some important blocks.
“We were poor in the second half but if you’re not going to win a game, it’s important not to lose it.”
Dartford loanee Dan Roberts headed Hungerford in front in just the third minute as the Crusaders looked to exploit the space in behind Farnborough’s attacking full-backs and although Robinson’s side were unable to make the most of a handful of other opportunities on the break, he was pleased with his side’s counter-attacking intent.
He said: “We knew Farnborough would go back to front quite quickly and get a lot of bodies forward, we tweaked our shape with that in mind to try and pack the midfield and make us stronger.
“We deserved the goal and after that we were a bit backs to the wall but we kept looking to hit them on the break, we missed a couple of first touches and final balls but that’s football, we won’t complain.”
One thing the Bulpit Lane faithful can always look forward to is the relentless effort and commitment characteristic of Hungerford’s performances all season and Robinson believes his side are soon to be rewarded with a run of results.
“The effort is in our DNA, I think it’s been central to all my teams down the years,” he said.
“The bare minimum is that my players sweat and bleed and cry for the shirt that they're wearing, every player did that today.
“We’ve got that togetherness and willingness to work hard and I believe that’s going to translate to results, it’ll be about time.”
As is tradition, the Crusaders will travel to Farnborough on New Year’s Day for the reverse fixture, which Robinson believes his side are capable of winning.
He said: “I don’t think we’ll do too much differently, hopefully we can keep the ball a little bit better.
“When you’ve got someone like Dan Roberts up front you’ve always got a chance, we’ll go there thinking we can win.”
