Robinson signs new two-year contract with Kingfishers

The Thatcham manager has extended his stay with the club after a unforgettable season

DANNY Robinson has been rewarded with a two-year contract at Thatcham Town after enjoying a fantastic season with the club.

The Kingfishers were presented with the Hellenic League title on Friday night after a 1-1 friendly with Basingstoke Town.

Thatcham won the league ahead of Bracknell Town on goal difference and have an FA Vase final to look ahead to this weekend

Robinson's men face off against Stockton Town in the final at Wembley Stadium on May 20.

As well as this, the Kingfishers set an unbeaten record of 40 games in all competitions and finished runners up in the Floodlit Cup and the Challenge Cup earlier this month.

After being offered the deal with an option for a further year, Robinson said: “It’s a privilege to be manager of this football club.

“It’s always been a great club and when I first moved here 15 years ago, I used to come here as a kid.

“To sign a contract – my first contract in football – is a massive privilege and it will make me work harder to bring more success.”

The Thatcham boss has praised the support from his family and also believes that the football club is growing stronger all the time.

“We’re becoming a great family,” he said.

“We do fall out, we do argue like families do, but the most important thing is that people are here because of the love of this football club and they want to see us become bigger and better.”

Meanwhile club chairman Eric Bailey admitted that the club had no hesitation in offering Robinson the contract.

He said: “I think the fact that we gave him a two-year contract, plus an option for a further year, shows I think he’s a breath of fresh air.

“We’ve struggled in the past and he came in and I think it’s proved to be the right move for Thatcham.”

Bailey revealed that the timing of the contract offer was perfect as the Kingfishers are preparing for the biggest game of their careers.

He said: “He was always going to be offered the contract – I thought we’d just wait until the end of the season.

“We’ve given him the contract before the trip to Wembley so there’s no pressure on him.

“He is a worthy recipient because he’s certainly one of the best we’ve had.”
