David Simcock’s 3-1 runner got the nod over favourite Gregorian by a short head to lift the top prize, a task perhaps made simpler by the absence of Clive Cox’s fancied and in-form Es Que Love.
The Lambourn trainer had lifted bin French rider Gerard Mosse after Adam Kirby was suspended, but having seen the softened course on Friday, opted not to run is four-year old.
The other featured race – the Betfred TV Hungerford Stakes - saw Marco Botti's Seismos last the pace to come through over the final two furlongs to score a win over past Ebor winner Willing Foe, ridden by James Doyle.
