Yashwa Romeo leaves Thatcham Town as upheaval continues at Combined Counties club

Yashwa Romeo has left his role as manager of Thatcham Town Football Club.

He confirmed in a post to X last night that his spell with the club had concluded.

“It's with a heavy heart that my time at @Thatcham_TownFC has come to an end,” the statement read.

“We've mutually agreed to go our separate ways.

“It's the right time for someone else to take over.

“Thanks to all the fans and the Thatcham Ultras following us home and away.”

The club expressed their gratitude to Romeo in an official statement.

“Yash’s dedication throughout his time with us have been greatly valued, and he remains a highly respected manager and former player”, it read.

“We wish him all the very best for the future!”

The news comes at a tumultuous time for the club.

They were relegated to Step 5 last season, finishing third from bottom after a controversial mandatory switch to the Southern League Division One South, which meant long and expensive away days to Devon and Cornwall.

Paul Ayres resigned as chairman shortly afterwards, with Phil Holdaway being named as acting chairman while the search continues for a permanent appointment.

At time of reporting, no retained list has been released by the club, meaning we don’t know if any players are signed on to play for the club next season.

There have been no new arrivals so far, perhaps owing to the uncertainty surrounding the club.

They are also searching for a volunteer football secretary to coordinate fixtures, matchday operations and player administration.

The club has been approached for comment.

Romeo’s departure triggered an outpouring of appreciation on social media.

“As honest and as genuine as they come, you. Appreciate everything you’ve done for the club in challenging circumstances. Will miss the post match debriefs, especially when I was hoping that one day you would buy the beers”, said X user @RustyRoyal.

“We can’t thank you enough for what you did for our club. You were incredible. We really wanted you to stay but that’s part of the game of football. We love you Yash”, added @townermacnamara.

“Absolute legend. Great manager and a total gentleman to go with it. All the best for the next chapter Yash!”, said former NewburyToday sports reporter, Robbie Stelling.

Earlier this month, NewburyToday reported that Thatcham had also axed plans for a new multi-user 3G training pitch after years of waiting.

One club insider told NewburyToday that a council grant had been sat in an account untouched for more than a year.
