Romeo pleased as Thatcham seal first win since December
Thatcham Town manager Yashwa Romeo was pleased with his side’s performance in their 1-0 win at home to Larkhall Athletic.
Thatcham came into Saturday’s game looking for their first win since December 21st, when they beat Malvern Town at the Mettal Stadium.
They made their home advantage count once again on Saturday, battling to a single goal victory.
Thatcham’s attack looks somewhat different to how it did back in December, with Harvey Fox, Harvey Flippance and Maidenhead loanees Jadyn Dundas and Jamie Davies accompanying Sam Tanner.
It was Davies who delivered for Romeo’s side, as Tanner made a driving run to break the Larkhall lines and played in the wide man, who rifled home with authority.
Thatcham dug in well to protect their lead in the hour that followed, seeing out a much needed 1-0 win for the side third from bottom.
“He’s got two in two, so that’s good for his confidence,” Romeo said of Davies.
“He came off the bench and scored [against Evesham], so I thought I’d reward him with a start and he paid us back.”
Romeo was pleased at how his side took advantage of a weakened opponent on Saturday.
“We got a little bit of luck within the game.
“Their right winger came off after five minutes, the captain went off after ten.
“You think, wow, can we capitalise?
“They had one shot on target and didn't really threaten.
“We worked really, really hard, credit to the boys.”
Young keeper Matt Pullinger is doing well so far, having joined on loan from Reading a few weeks ago.
“That was only his second senior appearance,” Romeo said of the 17-year-old.
“It was probably a bit daunting for him, but I think he’s handled it pretty well.
“His overall performance was good, he had a good 1v1 save and he commands his area very well,”
Last week saw the return of Dan Smith, a tough tackling central midfielder who previously came through the club’s youth setup.
“He’s got a big build and he gets stuck in,” he said.
“He can add that presence that we probably don’t have across the team, so he adds a different dynamic.
“I always welcome people back.”
Thatcham travel to Bristol Manor Farm on Saturday, hoping to put together a run of good results.
“Manor Farm and Yate are probably free hits for us,” he said.
“Whatever we get will be a bonus.
“We’ve got Westbury, Cribbs, Bideford and Bashley.
“I’d be looking to get nine points from those four games.
“That would be a very good month.”
