Romeo would love a top 10 finish after Thatcham beat Chertsey

Thatcham Town boss Yashwa Romeo is targetting a top 10 finish ahead of his side's final four fixtures of the season.

The Kingfishers moved back into the top half of the Isthmian League South Central table following a 2-1 win over Chertsey Town on Saturday and finishing in the top 10 would mean Thatcham enter the FA Cup one round later, entitling them to more prize money.

Revitalised striker Simeon Weekes scored the winner 20 minutes from time after Chertsey’s Troy Walters cancelled out Josh Edwards’ first half opener.

"We were very pleased to get back to winning ways," Romeo said.

"I felt like we were good value for the three points."

Match winner Weekes scored the winner to mark his third goal in three weeks following a barren spell that saw him without a goal since the opening day.

Romeo was a prolific marksman in his playing days and was quick to praise Weekes, who is enjoying a new lease of life after scoring a brace against Northwood at the end of last month.

He said: "Sim's a hard worker and he's been getting himself in some good positions.

"He's probably not a natural goalscorer but he gives us a lot, he's just got to find that knack of hitting the back of the net."

The Kingfishers have four games left this term and while Romeo's side are destined for mid-table there's still a lot to play for, with a top half finish up for grabs and a chance to have a say in who is crowned champions.

"If we can finish in the top half then we enter the FA Cup a round later which can be massive," Romeo said.

"We want to have a say in where the title ends up and I think that'll motivate the players.

"We want to upset them both."

Saturday's win was Cameron Rohart-Brown's 50th appearance for Thatcham and Romeo was delighted for the attacking full-back, comparing him to Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

"Cameron's a good lad and a pleasure to manage," he said.

"He's so laid back and that can come across as a little bit lethargic but I think if we can address that then he can go on to really good things.

"He reminds me a bit of Trent Alexander, he's got brilliant quality."

Thatcham travel to Chipstead on Saturday before welcoming second placed Basingstoke on Easter Monday.
