Rugby trio all set for Guinness world record attempt
Three players from Newbury Rugby Club will take on a unique sporting challenge next week.
Ellie Ferrie, Sarah Coleman and Roisin Winston, who play for the club’s senior women’s side, are heading to Ireland for a test of endurance.
The trio will be attempting to break the Guinness world record for the longest game of rugby ever played.
The challenge will involve playing a continuous 36 hour game of rugby - that's 27 times the length of a normal match.
The match runs from 8am on Wednesday 18th at Mullingar RFC in Ireland and will carry on all the way through until Thursday night.
The women’s record to beat stands at 24 hours, 5 minutes and 15 seconds.
Apart from the duration, everything else will look like a normal rugby game, with 15 players, 23 in each squad, rotating on and off.
The match is full contact with scrums, line outs and mauls.
The group is hoping to break the record and raise money for some great causes while they’re at it.

The first is LooseHeadz, rugby’s leading mental health charity, who are on a mission to save lives in rugby through mental health support.
Another, Wooden Spoon, is a charity dedicated to transforming the lives of children and young people through the power of the rugby community
Fittingly, on Lions week, the players will also raise money for the British & Irish Lions Trust, who offer financial and emotional support to former Lions who need it.
