Run the Racecourse returns to Newbury Racecourse for 2025, thanks to children’s mental health charity Time to Talk West Berkshire

Run the Racecourse is returning for 2025.

The inaugural event last year was a huge success, with more than 500 runners taking part across 5k, 10k, and half-marathon distances around Newbury Racecourse.

This year 800 people are expected to take part on Sunday, August 10, as the event makes its return.

Last year’s race not only created a fantastic community atmosphere, but also helped to raise vital funds for charity behind it all, Time to Talk West Berkshire, which provides mental health support for local young people.

This year, the charity is keen to encourage more children and young people to take part, as part of its focus on improving mental wellbeing through physical activity.

“Running is a fantastic way to promote well-being, and we hope the event will inspire young people to get involved, challenge themselves, and experience the benefits of physical activity,” the charity said.

“The importance of supporting children’s mental health has never been clearer, especially following the recent comments by the Princess of Wales, who has been a strong advocate for early intervention and emotional resilience in young people.

“Her work has highlighted how crucial it is to provide children and young people with opportunities to develop skills and improve their well-being – something we have always advocated at Time to Talk West Berkshire and hope to further reinforce through this event.”

There will be three races on the day, a 5k, a 10k and a half-marathon, with people of all abilities eligible to take part.

The age limit for the 5k is 11, while the limit for the 10k is 15 and the half-marathon is for over 17s.

There are 50 free charity places available for local runners, who will receive a free registration and a Time to Talk T-shirt in return for their fundraising efforts.
