Saunders trio shine in Thruxton race as Matilda, Harriet and Richard represent Kennet
Three members of the athletics mad Saunders family represented Team Kennet at the Thruxton Circuit Run last month.
First up was the youngest of the Saunders trio, Matilda, who lined up in the children’s fun run for under-14s.
Fighting for the lead from start to finish, Matilda crossed the line as the fastest girl, and was second overall. Very pleased with her performance, Matilda would have liked to be able to compete in the longer races for older athletes.
Next was sister Harriet, who took part in the 5k race against teenagers and adults.
After making a strong start, Harriet had to battle against the blustery conditions as well as her rivals, and passed the test with flying colours.
She completed the course in a new personal best time of 21.04, winning the women’s race by a considerable margin.
Dad Richard was also in action in the 5k, rounding off a fine day for the Saunders clan with a fast time of 19.10 to finish as quickest adult, veteran and fourth place overall.
