Schools make their mark on Jersey

Newbury Primary Schools representative team loses only once in a week at Jersey International Festival

SCHOOLS FOOTBALL: The Newbury Primary Schools team returned from the 41st annual PwC Jersey International Festival with only one defeat to their name all week.
They also had one of the individual stars of the week in Tyler Blackford who won the tournament’s Golden Boot award after netting seven times over the six matches played at the FB Fields in St Helier.
Newbury won three, drew two and lost only once to Thurrock, following up their opening wins over Orpington and Gloucester with a draw against Orpington Blue.
That led to a 4-1 win over Gloucester in which Blackford and Henry Drake each scored twice before the sole reverse at the hands of a physically strong Orpington side that left Newbury in third place in the group, behind undefeated St. Albans and Thurrock.
That meant a play-off with Hackney that finished 2-2 with Blackford again on target and James Legg adding the other Newbury goal.
