Season starts with a record splash

Zara Ryan - now competing as 14-year old - set new standards in all four events to win the 100 metres individual medley in 1 mins 09.28 secs, the 200m breaststroke in 2:47.76, the 100m butterfly in 1:07.32 and the 200m freestyle in 2:14.43.
James McFadzen also broke two existing records for 13-year olds in the 100m medley in 1:09.86 and the 200m breaststroke with his 2:49.98, while Jake Jezzard was also in record breaking form in the 16-plus category to win the 100m medley in 1.02.14 and the 100m butterfly in 1:01.00.
There were also half a dozen single records broken, three in the 200m breaststroke event in which Ellie Cowan set a new record for 10-year old girls of 3:26.93 while Molly Dummett broke the 11-year olds mark in an outstanding 3:08.24.
Ben Hutchins also set a new record for 12-year old boys in 3:01.9 and two more records fell in the 100m butterfly with Millie Pope setting a new 11-year olds’ best of 1:11.86 and Louise McFadzen for the 15 year olds in 1.10.90s.
