Seconds out for Town
Last-gasp equaliser denies Thatcham an end to their disappointing run of league results
THATCHAM TOWN were seconds away from ending their bleak streak of results in the Evo Stik League Southern when Tiverton Town netted a last-gasp equaliser at Waterside Park on Wednesday night.
Thatcham appeared to be heading back into the league's top four when Mark Hughes put them ahead midway through the second half.
Carl Self was twice denied by Tiverton goalkeeper Chris Wright, who also kept out a Matt Bowler header.
But in the third minute of stoppage time, former Manchester United trainee Michael Nardiello popped up to level the scores and secure for Tiverton their seventh game without defeat.
Thatcham are now without a game until January 28 when they travel to Yate Town, giving manager Gary Ackling the chance to attempt to add to his strike force.
Thatcham have scored only four times in their past nine league games, and Ackling has made two bids to bring in new strikers. Highworth's Sean McKeown has opted not to make the move for travel reasons from his Cheltenham home, while Ackling is delaying speaking to Binfield marksman Carl Davies while the Hellenic Leaguers remain involved in the FA Vase.
