NICKY Shorey had a watching brief from the bench after answering Hungerford’s squad call earlier than expected and seeing his new team-mates claim a draw.

“We had a couple of players out, but Nicky came down to help us out,” said manager Bobby Wilkinson, “but he had only had one training session with us and hadn’t played for a bit, so I didn’t want to put him under too much pressure.”

Shorey saw his new team-mates hit the woodwork three times and miss a number of chances. “But we’ve played well and got another away point,” said Wilkinson.

Stefan Brown’s stunning volley had given Hungerford the lead inside 20 minutes, and they dominated for long spells before Elliot Buchanan responded in kind with a superbly struck free kick in the 54th minute before Hungerford took charge.

Luke Williams and James Clark had the crossbar shaking in quick succession and Harry Goodger and Matt Day went close before the final moments saw Buchanan and Nicholas Bignall miss clear chances at either end.
