Woolton Hill celebrate successful season
Woolton Hill Argyle under-15s defended their Testway Division One title in dramatic fashion on the final day of the league season.
Even at 1-1, Woolton Hill, needing a point to secure the title, showed no signs of nerves – Woolton Hill went on to win 3-1 to secure a second successive league crown.
Coach Gary Plumpton was keen to praise his entire squad of 16 players, who are a mix of Park House and St Barts students, for their commitment, dedication and skill.
The result secured a league and cup double – Woolton Hill beat AFC Stoneham 3-0 at Whitchurch FC to win the league cup in April.
Perhaps the season's standout moment was Argyle's 4-2 win over title rivals Wimborne – Woolton Hill came from 2-0 down to secure three vital points before Christmas.
Woolton Hill's second team squad, made up of 21 players, were promoted to Division Two of the Testway League having been crowned champions of Division Three with a handful of games to spare.
The second team also enjoyed a successful run to the quarter-finals of the league cup that saw them knock out two Division One sides.
Away from the pitch, the club's committee members work tirelessly to create and maintain a positive environment for players to train and compete.
Plumpton also praised the parents who are chauffeurs, fundraisers and bacon roll extraordinaries – grassroots football at its finest.
