With goalkeeper Andy Bayliss newly installed as caretaker boss and new signing Curtis Angell in the ranks, Newbury more than covered the no-show of striker Raymond Spence to score three times in each half.
Jamie Green headed Newbury in front after six minutes and Danny Lachacz added a second midway through the half,
Bayliss twice saved from Shaun Stanley before Callum Willmoth added the third goal and after Darren Jones had netted number four early in the second period, substitute Kalief Madden struck twice to seal a comfortable passage.
