Slamming on the pedal power
The club's former director of rugby Terry Burwell will cross the Channel to join the fifth stage of the ride as it heads back to the UK and a finish at the Olympic Park.
And once back in the UK, he will be joined by ex-Newbury players Colin Phillips and Paul Eggbeer and Simon McAuley, proprietor of Thatcham's McAuley Motors.
They are hoping to boost the final take above the £2 million target and will ride into action in static mode on Saturday when they warm up on a turbo trainer in front of Pizza Express in the Market Place.
The restaurant has backed Burwell as he bids to bring in his share of the target. "Each rider aims to bring in £3,000," he said.
"The target is to raise £2 million and so far £1.5 million has been raised."
Dallaglio and Flintoff set off from Olympia in Greece on April 23 and have since been joined by numeoruis riders tackling each of the five stages, including former soccer stars Lee Dixon and Graeme Le Saux.
Woolton Hill resident Burwell will face a testing stage from Nancy in France and through the Champagne region south of Reims, although it will not be bubbles along the way.
"The northern part of France is one of the toughest routes," he said, "it is on farm tracks and cobbles around Roubaix and is known as the 'Hell of the North.'
"Warming up in the Market Place is the nearest we can get to cobbles in Newbury!"
The riders' progress is charted online at http://www.dallaglioflintoff2012.com while Burwell is also compiling an online blog of the ride alongside the opportunity to donate to the cause.
