It was another busy weekend of sport in the West Berkshire area, with plenty of teams in action in their respective leagues.

In the FA Trophy, Thatcham Town are into the third qualifying round after a penalty shoot-out victory against Sholing at the Stacatruc Stadium.

Lamin Ceesay gave the home side a 1-0 lead after 23 minutes, but with just four minutes of the game remaining, Claudio Herbert’s free-kick took a deflection off the wall and hit the crossbar before appearing to cross the line.

The game went straight to penalties and Town keeper Chris Rackley was the hero as he saved two kicks as his side won 3-2.

Meanwhile, Anna Gomez, Becky Corbin, Hannah Jones all scored for Newbury & Thatcham Ladies 1st as they beat Phoenix & Ranelagh 1st 3-0 at home.

Elsewhere, the Newbury Netball League continued with their league with teams competing in the Premier Division, Division 1 and Division 2.
