Battaash ready to chase fifth successive King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood
Sprint superstar Battaash is bidding for an incredible fifth successive victory in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Friday (today).
The Charlie Hills-trained seven-year-old has won the Group 2 contest for the last four years and is the pre-race favourite to land a fifth victory.
Battaash, who will be ridden by Jim Crowley once again, has won three of his last four races and his last appearances came in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot - when he finished fourth.
Lambourn trainer Hills saw his sprint king finish ahead of Glass Slippers in last year’s race, but it’s expected to be a very tight renewal at Goodwood.
Dragon Symbol, trained by fellow Lambourn trainer Archie Watson, holds an entry for the race as does Art Power and last year’s runner-up, Glass Slippers.
Kingsclere trainer Andrew Balding has one runner in the race, in the form of Stone Of Destiny and he enjoyed a consistent opening day of the Glorious Goodwood festival.
The Park House handler had four runners on Day 1, with Johnny Drama, Berkshire Shadow, Happy Power and Nebulosa all finishing in the places.
Berkshire Shadow ran a solid race to finish second in the Unibet Vintage Stakes, while Happy Power came third in the Unibet Lennox Stakes.
Johnny Drama finished fourth under Silvestre De Sousa in the Chesterfield Cup, while Nebulosa came third in a Fillies Handicap.
