Spurcroft lead three-way march into finals
Schools qualify for south western football finals
SPURCROFT, Bradfield and Hungerford Primary Schools are on a treble march into the ESFA National Danone Primary Championships after winning their Berkshire County finals.
Spurcroft beat Slough’s Saint Peters Middle School 2-0 in Saturday’s main final played at Henwick, the Year 6 boys coming under pressure in the first half when goalkeeper Jacob Appleby and his defenders were in outstanding form to keep the game goal-less.
The Thatcham school saw more of the ball after the break and they went ahead when Oliver Ford dummied the ball for Oliver Chadwick to scramble the ball home, and Spurcroft maintained their momentum to add a second goal when Chadwick’s corner found its way to Jay-Jay Plank to finish well.
Appleby had to make a smart save to keep the lead intact as Spurcroft qualified for the South West Area finals to be played at Bath on April 23.
Bradfield Primary School have also qualified for Bath in the small schools seven-a-side competition, and Hungerford girls beat Slough 4-1 to join them.
Spurcroft’s winning squad (pictured) was Jay-Jay Plank, Jacob Appleby, Luke Schofield, Reuben Otorepec, Oliver Chadwick, Jack Kennett, Kane French and Oliver Ford.
