Kennet need to win final game to retain Ladies crown




ST Mary’s A defeated Kennet B by four rubbers to two to move into first place in the Newbury Badminton League Ladies (Open) Division 1.

Janine Fisher led the way for Saints winning her three rubbers, supported by Nicola Smith, Pam Norman and James Mogg.

Marlie Paice responded for Kennet B taking two rubbers alongside Isabel Oettinger, Tata Saenmee and Jackie Ansell.

This result means that Kennet A will need to win their final match of the season against Shaw A to finish top and retain their title.

In the same division Newbury A secured a 4-2 win over Aldermaston A.

Aldermaston A later played Shaw A and suffered a 5-1 loss.

Lucy Rider and Oli Terry kept clean sheets for Shaw, supported by Latha Taylor and Clare Beavis.

Helen Apsey, Geoff Wilkinson, Julie Ward and Olly White all fought hard for Aldermaston without much reward.

St Mary’s A sealed the Men’s Division 1 title after an 8-1 win over Kennet A.

Martin Graham/Vijay Samuel and Ross Parsons/Sam Riley kept clean sheets for St Mary’s, supported with two rubbers from Mark Lowries/Michael Nash.

James Powell/Warren Johnson picked up Kennet’s consolation rubber.

Newcomers Waverley A finished the season as winners of Men’s Division 2 after a 9-0 win over Shaw B.

Matt Pennefather-Neal/Adam Hood, Mark Gentry/Craig Ford and Matt Chittenden/Keith Miles were all undefeated.

Aldermaston set Shaw B a target for third place in the division after a 9-0 win over a two-pair Bucklebury A.

David Ord/Alan Macdonald, Neil Hince/Rod Booth and Chris Apsey/Olly White each picked up three rubbers.

Shaw B responded to the challenge by also beating a two-pair Bucklebury A

9-0.

Paul Olive/Pete Schofield, Jesse and Jason White and Chris Fifield/Jia Sisubalan each won all their rubbers for Shaw.

Shaw now need a win over Newbury B in the division’s final match to snatch third place from Aldermaston.

In their final match of the season Compton A had a 7-2 win over Kennet B.

Chris Tompkins/Keith Watts and Nic Rivers/Finlay Haines picked up Kennet’s consolation rubbers.

Steve Heath/Jamie Carter and James Brewin/Marc Domenech Vadilio kept clean sheets for Compton with Matt Yarnall/Alex Gell providing the final rubber.

The final match between in Mixed Division 1 between Kennet A and Shaw A will who finishes runners-up to St Mary’s A.
