St Neots trip starts another busy 48 hours

Hungerford face another hectic weekend in promotion chase

HUNGERFORD TOWN go into another 48-hours of Evo Stik League Southern tests with manager Bobby Wilkinson looking to keep his squad fresh as the going gets tougher over the next few weeks in the Evo Stik League Southern’s Premier Division.

The need to keep the side fresh was highlighted last week when Hungerford drew with Stratford Town on Monday, 48 hours after beating Kettering when playing half the game with 10 men.

“Our midfield was tired after an hour,” said Wilkinson, “I’ll start looking to freshen things up with a change or two with the games coming thick and fast.”

This week’s see Hungerford face another tricky trip to St Neots Town on Saturday, before engaging a Paulton Rovers side close to the bottom of the table on Monday but unbeaten this year following a managerial change.

St Neots are also in the hunt for a new manager after disappointing in the league this season and also losing at home to Hungerford in the FA Trophy, but they showed their mettle when winning 5-2 at Cirencester last week and, said Wilkinson: “That is what they can do. I still believe they are a fantastic side and can beat anyone in the league, and St Neots is a tough place to go.”

Garyn Preen scored one of the goals in the 2-1 Trophy win at St Neots in November, but he has been suffering from a persistent hamstring injury which is being managed carefully, although Wilkinson hopes to have him in a full-strength squad on Saturday.
