Superb Stags blitz Beaconsfield

Newbury Stags recorded their biggest win of what's been a difficult Counties 2 Tribute BBO South season so far, thrashing Beaconsfield 50-15 at Monks Lane.

Stags shipped 63 points in a bruising early season encounter with Beaconsfield in September but produced a remarkable performance to avenge that defeat and ease some pressure towards the bottom of the table in emphatic fashion.

It took until the half hour mark for Stags' dominance to be rewarded with an opening score when good work from the lively Andy Maher set up Ed Gavin who finished well for the hosts' first try of the afternoon and the boot of Jordan Ruddock made it 7-0.

Thereafter the contest opened up and Stags were 19-5 up at half time thanks to tries from Max Pocock and Alex Du Sautoy.

Stags went through the gears after the break, Louis Carnell crossing not long after the restart when he was first to Pocock's chip kick before the reliable boot of Ruddock made it 26-5.

Beaconsfield managed a couple of second half tries of their own but the result was never in doubt as Fraser Carr, Ryan Davis, Carnell and Pocock all crossed to wrap up a comprehensive bonus point win that also featured a fine Stags debut for colt Ben Kaesser, who registered an assist for Pocock's second try of the afternoon.
