Storm soars to gold in France

Downe House skier makes her mark alongside team-mates

DOWNE HOUSE skiers have claimed a handful of prizes at the 2016 British Schoolgirls Races, which took place in the French resort of Flaine last week.

Fourteen-year Storm Halestrop claimed an age group victory, with 13-year olds Catherine Nicol and Miranda Drummond and 12-yar old Clementine Black all taking third places on the podium.

The two days of racing included a giant slalom, slalom and parallel slalom, but it was in the first of those that Halestrop scored victory in the under 16 non-registered skier category.

On the second day she went on to finish second in the slalom and those results took her into the gold medal place.

Catherine Nicol was third in the under U14 registered skier category in the slalom, with Clementine Black placed in the same age gorup’s non-registered skier category in the same race. Miranda Drummond’s bronze award was in the under 14 registered skier category in the combined.

The event has often proven to be a breeding ground for young British talent, with Olympian Chemmy Alcott and Paralympic sight guide Charlotte Evans among previous competitors.
