Struggling Swifts scare the leaders
Goodger double wins top versus bottom clash - Newbury survive late penalty miss to retain perfect tag
HUNGERFORD TOWN were breathing a huge sigh of relief as they came away from bottom of the table Stourport eight points clear at the top of the table after scraping home 4-3 alongside the River Severn.
They had skipper Matt Day stretchered off before substitute Harry Goodger came up trumps with two goals to end Swifts' hopes.
Stourport went ahead when Hungerford had been temporarily reduced to 10 men following a facial injury to midfielder Tom Fila, loan signing Michael Taylor netting the first of his three goals.
He struck after five minutes and the visitors had to wait until just before the interval for the equaliser when Day fired home from 35 yards out.
Taylor pounced again seven minutes after the re-start, only for Nicholas Ogbanufe to head home the second equaliser, and Goodger turned in a Jamie Gosling free kick within two minutes of coming on to put Hungerford ahead.
It was a short-lived lead as Taylor headed home with Day grounded, and Hungerford had to stage a late onslaught before Goodger converted a gosling corner for the decider.
NEWBURY survived a late penalty miss to score a 3-2 home win over Maidenhead United reserves to maintain their 100 per cent record in Division One East of the Hellenic League.
Jamie Green headed Newbury in front inside 15 minutes from a Callum Willmoth free kick only for Jack Butts to level the scores inside a minute and the visitors deservedly took the lead when Ishmail Kamara headed home.
David Livings' run led to Jeff Kalejaiye stabbing Newbury back on terms and they snatched what was to be the winner when Craig Hill pounced on a poor back pass to score, although Newbury had to thank Kamara for putting the ball wide from a spot kick in stoppage time.
LAMBOURN SPORTS beat Thatcham Town Reserves 3-1 in their derby meeting at Bockhampton Road. Russell Benham put the visitors ahead but Sam Mooney, Richard Guy and Matt Pedder won it for Lambourn.
