Three wins from three for in-form Tadley Calleva
Tadley Calleva made it three wins from three and secured a spot in the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup following a 4-2 win over East Cowes Victoria Athletic on Tuesday night.
Kick off was delayed until 8:30 after East Cowes’ ferry from the Isle of Wight arrived late but it proved smooth sailing on the pitch as a first half brace from Brett Denham and second half strikes from Alfie Saunders and Ben Wright set up a tie against Bournemouth FC next month.
“It was a bit difficult because we’d warmed up and were ready, I was worried we would be a bit flat,” Ben Dillon, Tadley’s joint manager, said.
“We actually started really well, we looked in control for most of the game, I’m really happy to be through to the next round.”
Dillon’s side moved up to sixth in the Combined Counties Premier Division South at the weekend thanks to a 6-1 rout of AFC Croydon Athletic at Barlows Park.
“Croydon are a good side, a physical side, we struggled in the first half, we took a while to get into the game,” Dillon said.
“We had a few missing, we changed the shape to accommodate that.
“Eventually we gained control of the game and we finished our chances, it was a good day.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t look at the table, I think everyone does, we’ve had a difficult start to the season and I’m really happy with where we’re at.”
Tadley kick off their FA Vase campaign on Saturday with a trip to Virginia Water before a return to league action and the visit of Frimley Green on bank holiday Monday.
Dillon said: “We’ve got two tough games but we’re full of confidence, the Vase is important to us as a club, I’d love us to have a good run.
"We'll have to rotate and rest a few, we've got a few out as well, we'll be looking for two wins and I think we're more than capable of that."
Elsewhere, AFC Aldermaston beat Rising Ballers Kensington 3-2 on Saturday.
That match also featured a delayed kick-off after Kensington’s kit was lost en route to the Stacatruc Stadium – the Atom Men taking full advantage of the visitors unorthodox build up to move up to 14th in the Combined Counties Division One table.
Aldermaston travel to the Cotswolds this weekend to face Brimscombe and Thrupp in the Vase.
