Target two for Falkland

CRICKET: Falkland set survival ambitions as they take on reigning champions at Enborne Lodge

FALKLAND skipper George Trewby has set a minimum safety target of two wins as his side chased survival in the top flight of the Home Counties Premier League.

Falkland have yet to play fellow strugglers Welwyn Garden City and Radlett, but success outside of those games would provide invaluable breathing space and Falkland will go into Saturday's game with Henley at Enborne Lodge hoping to pull off a surprise against the reigning champions.

"We will probably have the strongest line-up we have had all season," said Trewby. Jim Ettridge misses out, but Will Challoner returns to join a side comparatively free of injury and other worries.

"We are hoping that will be the case for the season now," he said. "I think we need two more wins at least to make it, and we have the squad to do that.

"If we don't, it will be our own fault. We have been bowling well, and with everyone available we have a lot more batting strength.

"We need to put on 250-260, especially at home, and that will make it difficult for other teams."

Ali Naqvi takes charge of THATCHAM in place of the unavailable Danny Williams as the home side bid to end their lean run when they entertain Basingstoke on Saturday.

Thatcham remain lodged in the bottom two in Division One of the Thames Valley League, and have a difficult task against high-flying Basingstoke.

The Thatcham line-up is: Josh O'Flynn, Ali Naqvi, Dan Stone, Andy Rishton, Scott Gibson, Jack Young, Robb Fraser, Chris Bird, John Williams, Tim Burnett, Daniel Stephenson.

Top of the table NEWBURY entertain third-placed Royal Ascot in Division Three A.
