Taunton tamed by Town

Seventh straight win over west country rivals edges Thatcham closer to neighbours at the top

THATCHAM TOWN maintained their stranglehold over Taunton with their seventh straight win over the Somerset side.

The result – and Hungerford's faltering at home to Bideford – cut the gap between the two to five points, with Thatcham having a game in hand.

The visitors threatened only in the closing stages when Kieron Drake saved well from Ross McNab and Darren Rice hit the bar. Thatcham had gone ahead in the 19th minute when Tom Melledew's shot came back off goalkeeper Chris McGrath and cannoned home off Sean Cook, and they added a second goal two minutes before the interval when Marc Green chased down the ball before poking it home.

Thatcham are in cup action on Wednesday night when they entertain Didcot Town in the Red Insure Cup.
