Team Kennet celebrate success

TEAM Kennet held its end of winter season presentations for cross country/indoor track and field and indoor sports hall after a recent training session.
More than 165 junior athletes turned up for training and had a chance to talk to ex-international athlete, Justin Pugsley, the 1999 UK cross country champion, who came to present the winning athletes with their trophies.
The club has had an amazing winter with membership reaching nearly 500 (350 juniors and 135 seniors).
The under 17 mens section was the most successful in the cross country, and the club had a record amount of athletes in all areas representing their counties in cross country and indoor sports hall.
Sam Hart (u13) who narrowly missed out on medals in the UK and inter-counties cross country races, won the major prize, the Winter Champion of the Season which was donated by Jessica Harrison, the club’s two-time Olympic athlete.
Sam came home in the top 18 in both races, winning the Oxford Mail cross country league u13s, and has now been selected to represent South East England on April 13.
Carys Cox (u17) won the best indoor track and field performance award for her bronze medal in the South of England 800m, while Darcey Fleming (u13) won the best indoor sportshall athlete of the season.
Individual age group awards were presented to Mia Eldridge, Darcey Fleming, Millie Calkin and Oliver Hewitt for indoor track and field, to Harry Davis, Anna Pettit, Cameron Langley, Mai Brown, James McLaughlin, Susie Drake, Alex Davis, Chloe Scaplehorn, Nathan Gillis, Helen Preedy and Tom Munt for cross country and to Maddi Barnes, Ben East, Darcey Fleming, Daniel Hockaday, Georgia Featherstone and Joe Osler for indoor sportshall. There were also sportshall awards to Archie Willis and Freya Poole for best newcomer, and Cameron Smith and Francesca Young for most improved.
