Larkin around at Team Kennet’s annual Mad Mile

While revellers celebrating the Summer Solstice descended upon Stonehenge, Team Kennet athletes turned out at Crookham Common for the 20th anniversary running of the club’s annual Mad Mile on June 21.

An impressive 93 runners took part across five races on the longest day of the year.

There were 22 runners in the evening’s first race, for under-nine and under-11 girls.

Under-11 Ella Larkin and under-nine Praiya Foreman broke away from the pack, with the two locked in a battle for top spot.

Larkin turned on the afterburners over the last lap-and-a-half to take a superb triumph, her time of 5.56 making her the first under-11 female to break the six minute barrier.

Foreman just about held on to second with a superb 6.26 while Quinn Joyce completed the top three, also clocking a time of 6.26.

Both Larkin and Foreman now sit at the top of the all-time event rankings for their age-group.

Samuel Atkins led throughout to win the under-nine and under-11 boys race in a time of 6.02 – which puts him second on the overall leaderboard – ahead of Finn Sanderson in second, 6.27, and Malik Gaye in third, 6.35.
