Team Kennet shine in Oxford League sun
Team Kennet were in Oxford League action on Sunday in Banbury.
The under-13 boys finished second overall thanks to impressive performances from Aiden Fleming, who came second in the 800m, Reuben Kuijten, who came third in the B string 800m, and Noah Lauder-Clark, who was fifth in the 1500m.
There was double delight in the long jump – Fleming won the A string with a leap of 4.29m while Lauder-Clark jumped 3.35m to triumph in the B string.
Lauder-Clark continued his successful afternoon with second place in the javelin and debutant Turkay Altuntas dominated the shot put and discus, winning them both with mammoth throws of 9.03m and 20.06m.
Elsewhere, Ivan Checkamoz came 2nd in both the 200m and 800m while Ethan Kuijten was third in the B string 300m, fourth in the 1500m and third in the shot put as the under-15 boys finished fifth overall.
The under-17 men also secured a fifth placed finish which featured wins in the discus for Seb Simpson, who also finished second in the shot put, and Brandon Carter in the javelin.
There were a series of impressive performances as Kennet's under-13 girls finished third overall – Emerald Hill-Sayer won the 800m in an excellent time of 2:48.2 while Ella Cronk won the B string event in 3:10.4, Anna Hall came second in the javelin and Eliska Simpson won both the shot put and discus.
In the under-15 girls competition, Emelia Lunn won the 800m, Leilah Gaye came third in the high jump and Bethany Maclean was crowned champion in the javelin and the B string long jump as Kennet finished fifth overall.
Annabel MacLean starred as the under-17 women secured a fifth placed finish – MacLean won the shot put, came second in the discus and was third in the 300m.
A host of Team Kennet athletes will compete in Newbury's duathlon and triathlon events on September 4 while others will travel to Abingdon for the season's third Oxford League meeting.
