Thames Valley ABC’s Ashton Duncan finished runner-up in his final of the National Junior Championships in Hereford.

The young boxer was competing in his first competition for the first time since March 2020 and he overcame K Powell from the Wirral in his semi-final.

Both Thames Valley coaches felt that Duncan had the upper hand as when he came back to the corner he had given everything he had.

He won on a 4/1 split which took him through to the finals the next day.

In the finals, Duncan’s final opponent was Charlie Brown from West Ham.

Round one saw the Thames Valley member start cautiously by staying off his taller opponent which enabled Brown to use his left and right combination at his distance.

Duncan only threw single shots which fell short of his opponent, which enabled Charlie to grow in confidence, and to throw a flurry of punches.

In the second round, Duncan cut the distance down and got in closer to catch his opponent with good combination shots, but Ashton was always second to the punch.

In the final round, Duncan knew he had to chase his opponent to cut the ring down and try to land body shots but it got a bit untidy.

It was a unanimous decision to Charlie Brown and Paul Cooke and Danny Ward would like to congratulate Duncan on both his contests over the weekend.

The club have two shows coming up next year which they are always looking for sponsors on February 26 and May 21.

If anyone knows of a building/unit that the club can rent for their own use permanently please contact Paul Cooke on 07904030962.
