won the 57 Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury to complete back-to-back victories for Seven Barrows.
And at Newcastle, champion jockey Tony McCoy rode
to win the grade one Fighting Fifth Hurdle.
That result leaves
as favourite for Cheltenham’s Champion Hurdle while
has now leaped into the spotlight for next year’s Grand National and has been installed as 16-1 favourite.
Following
victory last year,
scored after Henderson’s more fancied
unseated his rider Nico de Boinville.
But the six-year-old
shook off an error at the final fence to win the gallop home ahead of Paul Nicholls’ Rocky Creek to win at 20-1 and leave the trainer with mixed thoughts on his horse’s future prospects.
“The plan has always been the Grand National and he would have been nicely weighted,” he said.
“But now the handicapper is going to take a dim view.
“But this is a very special race for us,” he added.
