Romeo would love a play-off push

Thatcham Town boss Yashwa Romeo isn’t ruling out a late push for the Isthmian League South Central play-offs after the Kingfishers beat fifth placed South Park 4-2, their fifth win in seven league matches.

Thatcham's recent form has seen them rise from the relegation zone up to 13th, 10 points behind South Park, who occupy the fourth and final play-off place.

And Romeo felt his side were good value for the three points against the Surrey side, who played 75 minutes with 10 men after an early red card.

"The play-offs might seem unlikely but it's important to believe it's possible, if we keep playing like we did at the weekend then I expect we'll keep winning football matches," he said

"South Park are a good side and even with 10 men played some good football, we weren't at our absolute best but we scored four goals and won the game."

New recruit Harry Williams opened his Kingfishers account when he scored Thatcham's second goal and Romeo is delighted with how the diminutive midfielder has settled into life at the Stacatruc Stadium.

He said: "He's done really well, he's making a step up from where he's been at Holyport.

"He took his goal very well and we're extremely pleased with him so far, he's settled in well."

Romeo's looking to continue adding to his squad, hinting at two new "quality" signings in the coming days.

One of those will be 22-year-old full-back Alfie Saunders, who has plied his trade at the likes of Aldershot, Tadley Calleva and, most recently, Hungerford Town.

"Alfie's been on our radar since we played Tadley in a pre-season friendly and he was head and shoulders above the rest," Romeo said.

"We're always on the lookout to bring players in that will improve the squad."

Thatcham host 19th placed Tooting and Mitcham, who the Kingfishers beat 2-1 last month, on Saturday.
