Falkland have to hold on at Enborne Lodge
THATCHAM went to the top of the embryo Morrant Thames Valley League Division Three B table after a 112-win over Falkland II at Brownsfield.
Openers Simon Rider and Josh O’Flynn put on 50 and 46 respectively and contributions down the order took the total to 229-7 declared in 50 overs.
Falkland were soon forced into survival mode and looked doomed at 88-7 before Nigel Trumper and son Sam tried to save their side with a dogged stand before the resistance was ended at 117 in the 48th over.
Thatcham top the table by six points from Newbury, who were beaten by two wickets with an over to spare by Cove at Northcroft.
Newbury opted to bat first but laboured to 32-5 and then 71-6 before staging a tail-enders’ rally, led by new boy Josh Harris’ 67.
He was supported by Sat Pal’s 43, 26 from Nick Ferguson and 11 not out from skipper Kevin Mills as Newbury recovered to post 203-9 in their 52 overs.
Cove also suffered an early dip to 23-3 before producing their own star turns in Jake Roylance and Troy Tomset, who put on 84 for the fifth wicket before Roylance fell from 80.
But with Tomsett going on to remain unbeaten with 61 as he ushered his lower order through to 206-8.
Falkland have to hold on after bright start
A promising start turned into a survival battle for Falkland as they had to settle for a draw with Chesham at Enborne Lodge in Division One of the Thame Valley League.
Both Chesham openers were back inside with only 31 runs on the board as Bruce Martin and Jason Williams claimed successes, but that start faltered as Jason Rance plundered an unbeaten 133 with five sixes and 13 fours, and his unbroken seventh wicket stand with Jack McIver yielded 172 runs as the score was hoisted to 292-6 declared after 50 overs with McIver 66 not out.
Falkland could never get up with the clock, despite Martin’s 61, and it needed an unbroken last wicket stand of 27 between Jason Williams (29 not out) and George Trewby (eight not out) to see them to safety at 200-9.
