Ceesay at the double as Thatcham end 2023 on a high note with thumping Uxbridge win

Thatcham Town ended the festive period on a high note with an emphatic 4-1 win over Uxbridge at the Mettal Stadium on Saturday.

A brace from Mo Ceesay, a header from David Nyarko and a well-taken goal by skipper Nathan Jones helped the Kingfishers win for the first time in three matches and conclude 2023 with a comprehensive victory.

It took the home side just five minutes to take the lead when dynamic midfielder Mo Ceesay headed home following teenage full-back Basim Mirtahmasebi pinpoint cross.

Uxbridge hit back six minutes later when Anguilla international Luke Paris beat Callum Smart with a downward header at the back post to make it 1-1.

Thatcham survived a spell of sustained pressure and restored their lead a minute before the break when David Nyarko flicked home Kyle Daniel-Spray’s cross at the near post.

And the hosts made it 3-1 after 51 minutes following a fluid attacking move. Kyle Daniel-Spray picked out David Nyarko and the frontman teed up Mo Ceesay, who blasted home his second goal of the afternoon to give the Kingfishers a two-goal cushion.

Ceesay turned provider as the home side made sure of the three points with 16 minutes remaining. He played a one-two with fellow midfielder Nathan Jones and the skipper curled a fourth goal beyond Andrew McCorkell to put the game to bed.

The win moves Thatcham, who have only lost one of their last 10 matches, into the top 10 and just seven points behind Westfield, who occupy the fourth and final play-off place.

On Saturday, Yashwa Romeo’s side travel to FA Vase champions Ascot United. The Yellas, who were promoted last term following a memorable campaign, are three places below Thatcham after winning for the first time in four matches at the weekend.
