Cameron keeps his cool as Thatcham sink Southall
Thatcham Town FC extended their unbeaten run to nine games in the Isthmian South Central League with a 1-0 win over Southall FC.
It was a game of few chances that saw Southall hit the crossbar from a free-kick and Thatcham's usually prolific frontman Jordan Alves take too long to shoot when he was through on goal before Nathan Jones was fouled for the decisive spot-kick that Cameron Rohart-Brown converted.
The hosts climb to ninth in the table and level on points with Southall after this result, but they remain behind Hall on goal difference.
Manager Yashwa Romeo was pleased with the three points, his side's first win in three after two draws in a row, but felt the Kingfishers' performance left something to be desired in a contest that could best be described as not a classic.
"It wasn't a great performance, I said that to the boys," he said.
"It wasn't a great game to be fair, the conditions made things difficult.
"In the last two games we'd conceded four goals and I don't think we'd done that since November so I challenged the boys to keep it tighter at the back and they did that, that was the biggest positive.
"We weren't at our best but we still managed to win the game and I think that's the sign of a good team."
Thatcham, who are without suspended captain Josh Edwards, travel to 16th placed Bedfont Sports, who are without a win in four matches, on Saturday, looking to maintain their recent run of good form and make it 10 unbeaten.
