Thatcham slip to home defeat

Despite making 201-5 on a testing wicket, Thatcham lost by seven wickets to Amersham on Saturday

THATCHAM fell to a home defeat on Saturday, despite making 201-5 on a turning wicket at Brownsfield.

After losing the toss and being put in to bat by Amersham, Thatcham's top order struggled to score quickly, with the side's 50 not coming until the 24th over.

However, the introduction of Ali Naqvi to the crease helped increase the run rate and Naqvi's 85, together with 55 from Dan Stone and support from the middle order saw Thatcham reach 201-5 off 52 overs, securing 10 batting points.

But the visitors quickly set about reaching their target, with Thatcham's bowlers struggling to take wickets or stem the flow of the batsmen.

And Amersham romped home, making 205-3 off just 39.1 overs.

Thatcham picked up 11 points in total, compared to Amersham's 20, and the West Berkshire side slipped one place in the Thames Valley League Division One table, courtesy of Henley II's win against Beaconsfield.

Thatcham travel to Henley II next Saturday.
