Thatcham thumped as struggles continue

Thatcham Town's Isthmian South Central League woes continued on Tuesday night with a thumping 4-0 defeat against undefeated Binfield at the Stacatruc Stadium.

The Kingfishers handed debuts to new signings Mark Chidi, a product of West Brom's academy, Joshua Adjei, formerly of Windsor, and Oluwatobiloba Shoyoye.

However the trio could do nothing to prevent Thatcham suffering a fourth defeat in six league games, conceding twice in both halves before 18-year-old Chidi was sent off after receiving a second yellow card with five minutes remaining.

The result leaves Thatcham languishing in 19th with the worst defence in the league, a point above bottom side Merstham, who have two games in hand on the Kingfishers.

Thatcham's attention now turns to the visit of Bedfordshire outfit Dunstable Town in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round this Saturday, 3pm kick off.

Dunstable are perhaps most famous for signing then 28-year-old George Best from Manchester United in 1974.

While Dunstable will be without a player of Best's calibre, the Blues promise to provide a stern test, having won their last three games by a combined margin of 13-1.

Thatcham then face a crucial clash at home to Bedfont Sports on October 1.

Bedfont lie one place above the Kingfishers in the league table, and Yashwa Romeo will know that his side need to start picking up results – and fast.
