Thatcham's unbeaten run comes to an end with back to back defeats
Thatcham Town's 10-game unbeaten run came to an end with two defeats in four days.
The Kingfishers hadn't lost since January 2 ahead of the weekend and the visit of play-off contenders Hanworth Villa, but the hosts were left reeling as two sensational strikes sent them in 2-0 down at the break.
The visiting Villains went ahead in the 26th minute when Kyen Nicholas turned well and then fired a strike from distance in off the underside of the bar and it was 2-0 less than 10 minutes later after Tom Bender's free-kick left the home side's goalkeeper Toby Fisher little chance.
The diminutive Harry Williams pulled one back with a late header following a good cross from on-loan full-back Issy Kaba, but there never looked like being enough time for the Kingfishers to draw level.
Thatcham looked well-placed to bounce back three days later with the visit of 14th placed Chipstead, taking the lead after a quarter of an hour through Cameron Rohart-Brown's spot-kick after the quick feet of Jordan Alves had drawn a foul inside the box from Chipstead's Charlie Kennet.
However the home side's lead didn't last long and Chipstead equalised in the 24th minute after marauding full-back Jerry O'Sullivan cut out Alves' misdirected cross-field pass, drove forward and beat Fisher with his right foot to make it 1-1.
Chipstead were ahead before half time when the unfortunate Ramarni Medford-Smith diverted Kennet's shot beyond Fisher and it was 3-1 on the hour when O'Sullivan's cross found Bradley Wilson unmarked, who headed home from close range.
Alves hit the woodwork with a free-kick and Medford-Smith pulled one back with 10 minutes from time but Thatcham, who drop to 12th, were unable to fashion an equaliser.
The Kingfishers travel to second bottom Sutton Common Rovers on Saturday.
