Kincardine wins at Newbury Racecourse, giving the Queen 'reason to smile'
"Exciting prospect" Kincardine won the first race of the day at Newbury Racecourse on Sunday.
Following a positive Covid result, the Queen was "given a welcome reason to smile" as Kincardine crossed the line.
The Queen, who owns Kincardine, had a reason to celebrate as her horse won the Federation of Bloodstock Agents Maiden Hurdle Race.
Kincardine put in a brilliant performance under jockey Nico de Boinville and trainer Nicky Henderson.
Both de Boinville and Henderson, as well as racegoers, wished the Queen well following her positive result.
Following Kincardine’s win, Nicky Henderson commented: “We were all sad to hear Her Majesty has Covid – I don’t know if the win was Covid medicine, but I hope it is.
“It was hard work out there today, but he enjoyed himself and handled the ground really well and he jumped well. This is just a practice for the days ahead when he should make a three-mile chaser and I hope he might be a smart one at the end of the day.”
Clerk of the Course for Newbury Racecourse Keith Ottesen said: “We were absolutely delighted to see Her Majesty’s horse win the first race on Sunday afternoon.
“Everyone across the site was really cheering Kincardine home after learning that Her Majesty had tested positive for COVID-19 and we very much hope she was watching and makes a speedy recovery.
"This was also double win for her, as she also bred the horse.”
