Theale Green Year 10s make it four in a row with 5-a-side victory
Theale Green School’s Year 10 boys football team have retained their District 5 A-Side title for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year.
The victory came against some tough competition at a tournament on Tuesday 14 January played at Bohunt School, with teams featuring academy players from Southampton, Reading, Oxford, and Swindon.
The team got off to a strong start, comfortably dispatching both John Madejski and Willink with 2-0 victories in each match.
These wins secured top spot in the group, setting up an exciting quarter-final showdown.
The highly anticipated clash against local rivals Little Heath ended in another 2-0 victory, where the team once again showed their dominance, proving too much for the opposition.
In the semi-final, they faced Maiden Erlegh Reading, where the team’s resilience was truly tested.
For the first time in the tournament, Theale Green conceded a goal, falling 1-0 behind.
But with time running out, Captain Hayden Vaughan delivered a sensational strike to equalize, sending the match into a penalty shoot-out.
Under immense pressure, the boys kept their cool to win the shoot-out and secure their place in the final.
The final was a fitting conclusion to the tournament, as the boys saved their best performance for last.
They dominated the match from the start, showcasing some brilliant, high-octane football.
With two early goals, they left Prospect struggling to keep up.
The game finished 2-1, with the boys clinching their fourth consecutive District 5 A-Side title in spectacular fashion.
