Title decider between Kingsclere and NWX awaits in Newbury Sunday League
The title race in Newbury Sunday League is coming to a dramatic finale.
NWX and Kingsclere have been separated by just a handful of points for much of the season.
The pair have been dominant, with reigning champions NWX winning fifteen out of fifteen games so far.
Kingsclere have a game in hand, and have won thirteen of fourteen so far.
Their only loss came against their title rivals back in October, and they sit just six points behind.
Sunday will see the sides clash for the final time this season, with NWX only needing a draw to be crowned champions.
This week both sides were in action, and both recorded wins to keep their momentum going.
NWX ran out 5-0 winners at home to AFC Aldermaston Sunday ‘B’.
Charlie Knight opened the scoring, perfectly positioned to finish a Harry Murtagh assist.
Murtagh provided another shortly after, finding the darting run of Alfie Davis-Ellard who smashed one in for 2-0.
Ben Wright then rose to the occasion, towering high over a crowded box to head in a corner for 3-0.
Benji Faloona then had his moment, finishing off a move which put NWX’s team chemistry on full show.
Knight grabbed another via an audacious bicycle kick to make it 5-0, a finish befitting George Allen’s well crafted assist.
Knight took home the Man of the Match award for his show-stealing goal.
Kingsclere meanwhile won 6-2 away at Thatcham Tornadoes, despite having only twelve active players to choose from.
Things didn’t start well, as an early back-post header went in to send Tornadoes 1-0 up.
Kingsclere battled back though, as Seth Fowler, Ben Wickens, Sam Hamilton and Dan Bonner all fired in a flurry of goals to make it 4-1 at the break.
The second-half was a tight one, but Kingsclere managed to hold their advantage.
A long ball from Bonner found Hamilton who fired in a Van Persie-esque volley from 25-yards, before Man of the Match Fowler slotted home a penalty for a 6-2 victory.
Elsewhere, Frilsham enjoyed one of their best results of the season at home to Aldbourne Royals.
They ran out 6-1 winners, as Jack Mann stole the show.
Mann bagged a hat-trick to give Frilsham full control of the game, while Lennox Churcher scored a brace.
Liam Richardson also scored to move Frilsham off the bottom of the table.
Sunday will see the title decider at Headley Playing Fields, as well as a clash between the bottom two as Frilsham host Plough on the Green.
Aldbourne will also host Diamond, with all games kicking off at 10:30.
