Town are on the spot

Thatcham need to win at bottom side Andover on Monday to clinch play-off spot while Hungerford and Newbury falter

THATCHAM TOWN will go into Monday's final day of the Zamaretto League season holding a play-off spot for the first time this season.

And their task is simple to clinch a trip to either Sholing or conceivably AFC Toton on Thursday night – win at bottom of the table Andover on Easter Monday afternoon.

On paper, it looks like a simple task: Andover have not won at home since the end of last season, although they did put u a fight before going down 2-1 on Saturday away to a North Leigh side that now poses the biggest threat to Thatcham's hopes.

Thatcham beat 10-man Almondsbury Town 1-0 at Waterside Park on Saturday, thanks to an 80th minute deflected effort from Matt Peddar.

Neighbours Hungerford's hopes were all but undone by an early Ricky Hulbert goal at home to Frome Town, who were already assured of a play-off place in Division One South and West. They go to Abingdon United on Monday, knowing that only a win and defeats for Thatcham and for North Leigh at Bishops Cleeve will give them a chance.

And Newbury are also looking for some help to make the top two in the Hellenic League's Division One East. They went down 1-0 at home to Rayners Lane on Saturday and must now win at Chalfont Wasps on Monday, while hoping that Hungerford's reserve team will do them a massive favour by beating Henley Town at Bulpit Lane allowing Newbury to go up on goal difference.
