Thatcham almost ended Sholing's 100 per cent home record, but went down to a narrow 2-1 defeat

THATCHAM Town went close to ending Sholing's 100 per cent home record until Tyronne Bowers' 83rd minute winner made it 14 out of 14 for the Zamaretto League Division One South and West promotion–chasers as they scored a 2-1 win.

It needed a deflected goal just before the interval to break the deadlock when top scorer Kevin Gibbens got his head to a corner and Thatcham defender Lee Stevens could only divert the ball into his own net.

But Thatcham got back on terms with just over 20 minutes to go when Stevens found Paul Taplin and to cross into the box where Charlie Mpi stretched to get to the ball before goalkeeper Mike Hookway.

And with debutant Mark James outstanding in the Thatcham defence it looked as if they could hold on for a point until Gibbens laid the ball back for Bowers to crack home with the help of another deflection.

Thatcham go to second to bottom Clevedon Town tomorrow night (Tuesday).
