Town keep their grip at the top

Tadley down top four Laverstock to climb Wessex table

Thatcham Town 3 Longlevens 1

THATCHAM scored their 13th home win of the season to tighten their grip on top spot in the Premier Division of the Hellenic League.

Kidlington’s defeat at Highmoor Ibis negated one of their games in hand, leaving reigning champions Flackwell Heath in second spot, two points behind on level terms.

After surviving an early Brad Martin chance, Thatcham took the lead midway through the half when Mark Hughes pounced to beat goalkeeper Ollie Hall and Danny Lachacz netted a neat second seven minutes later.

Longlevens pulled one back at the start of the second period through Martin, but Thatcham made sure of the points when Tom Melledew drilled a free kick into the top corner.

Thatcham revert to cup action tomorrow (Tuesday) night when Thame United visit Waterside Park in the Floodlit Cup.

TADLEY CALLEVA are back in the top half of the Sydenhams Wessex League Division One table after Saturday’s 3-0 dismissal of fourth-placed Laverstock and Ford at Barlows Park.

Brett Denham was on target twice with James Tennant adding the other as Tadley prepare for a Tuesday night trip to Ringwood Town as they play their games in hand on the teams above them.
